Legal Aid and Free Legal Services
The following organizations provide free or reduced-cost legal services to qualifying individuals. Eligibility is generally based on income. If you do not qualify for legal aid or your matter falls outside the scope of these programs, contact us to discuss your options.
- North Mississippi Rural Legal Services — Free civil legal representation for low-income individuals in the 39 northern counties of Mississippi. Services cover family law, housing, estate matters, workers’ rights, immigration, and more. Call 1-800-498-1804.
Ole Miss Law School Clinical Programs
The University of Mississippi School of Law operates several clinical programs through which law students provide free legal representation to qualifying clients under the supervision of licensed attorneys. The following clinics serve clients with civil and criminal legal needs in the Oxford area. For more information visit law.olemiss.edu.
- Child Advocacy Clinic — Represents children in neglect and abuse cases as court-appointed Guardian ad Litem, and assists with guardianships, custody arrangements, and adoptions to achieve permanency for children.
- Housing Clinic — Represents individuals and families facing eviction, foreclosure, illegal lockouts, and predatory lending practices.
- MacArthur Justice Clinic — Advocates for human rights and social justice through litigation involving police misconduct, unlawful bail and fine collection practices, conditions of confinement, and juvenile justice.
- Transactional Clinic — Assists low-income entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations with business formation, contracts, financing, and leasing, with a focus on economic development in the Mississippi Delta.
- George C. Cochran Innocence Project — Investigates and litigates claims of actual innocence on behalf of wrongfully convicted Mississippi prisoners.
- Pro Bono Initiative — Student volunteers team with attorney volunteers to assist pro se litigants at legal clinics covering family law, housing, taxation, and estate planning.
